Font Hill Manor was first built in the 1700’s by Admiral Hammond, related to Colonel Rezin Hammond of Burleigh and Matthias Hammond, builder of the Hammond-Harwood House in Annapolis. When originally built, Font Hill was a very simple rectangular building, constructed of local granite on lands originally called Kendall ‘s Delight. Nineteenth and twentieth century additions created the fine building that exists today.
The Hammonds owned the property until 1902 when it was purchased by Louis T. Clark. The Clarks raised eleven children here. Font Hill Manor was purchased by Caroline and Somerset Jones in 1927. They worked with the architect Wirth Jamieson to restore the house to its present appearance.
The property was sold several times and was even refigured into apartments. It has been restored to a private residence and was the 20th Annual Decorator Show House. The house is located on Font Hill Drive, in Ellicott City, Maryland. It is listed on the Maryland Inventory of Historic Properties.
Susan Haug was Chairperson and the house was open from October 2 to October 31, 2004. Almost 7,400 guests toured the home.
