Following construction of the B&O railroad in the 1830’s from Baltimore to Ellicott City many prominent Lawyers built summer homes in now what is Lawyers’ Hill in Elkridge. In 1860 Judge George W. Dobbin built Armagh, a country home in Lawyers’ Hill, for his son Robert who inherited it 26 years later.
Here the family would spend the summers while the head of the house would commute from his sultry office in Baltimore to relax in the luxury of his fine country home, where the temperatures were sure to be ten degrees cooler and there was usually a breeze. The house although altered with a “Georgian” entrance in 1960 still has a classic Italianate appearance.
Armagh is located at 6204 Lawyers’ Hill Rd. Elkridge, MD. Armagh was listed on the National Register of Historic Places In 1989 The show house was held from September 24 to October 23. The chairman was Dorothy Stephan.
